On Travel: A Mom's Philosophy

I remember visiting the dunes as a little kid. Trips to lakes, to Disney. I remember the my first time on an airplane. I was excited at first, but then I looked down on the clouds. I do not prefer the window seat.

I remember my parents arguing. My mom wanting to get up and go see things. My dad wanting to chill. Moving bed times, eating out, driving, flying, going & staying. What I remember most was spending time with my family. My dad traveled for work, so the novelty of a flight was lost on him. Regardless, there was always a sense of celebration or reward; for my dad's hard work, for my mom's organization, for us kids at school, whatever. We told jokes, took cheesy tourist pictures (and waited for them to be developed), and made memories.

As a mother with two small kids of her own, I know I want to retain that excitement for travel. I want to instill a sense of wonder, of adventure, of a world outside. I hope my kids will remember that I value the time we spent together, that I cared enough to curate experiences for them, and that I wanted them to SEE new places and people.

This blog is about those experiences. Maybe you will read tips on where to go or what to do, but what I hope you will see our excitement! Joyous travels everyone!

Sincerely,

L. West (Mom)
